Long form on the web

Clearly there has been a renaissance lately in long-form publishing on the web. Just take a look at longform.org every morning.

But even though the web is the delivery mechanism for long-form pieces, I almost never actually read them in the browser. It just doesn’t feel right. First of all, I’m not in the frame of mind to read long-form when browsing. Secondly, no matter how clean and tasteful the page design, I prefer something even more stripped down, like Readability.

When I come by a long-form piece I want to read, I add it to my Pocket queue, and usually read it on my tablet, laid back, without any other distractions on the screen.

So the Web has become an excellent delivery mechanism for long-form content, but its actual enjoyment happens elsewhere.
